Food Safety and Handling

Linking to these sites is an effort to make as much accurate information and resources available to users as possible. We have reviewed all sites before adding them to this list. However, we do not endorse all the information and content of these sites.


  • American Egg Board The Incredible Edible Egg World Wide Web Site. Egg lovers will find egg recipes, answers to FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions), egg facts, egg nutrition information, and egg industry information.


  • "Bad Bug Book" (from the FDA) Excellent resource! This handbook provides basic facts regarding foodborne pathogenic microorganisms and natural toxins. Some technical terms have been linked to the National Library of Medicine's Entrez glossary. Recent articles from Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports have been added to selected chapters to update the handbook with information on later outbreaks or incidents of foodborne disease.







  • Foodborne Illness Education Information Center (FDA/USDA) provides information about foodborne illness prevention to educators, trainers, and organizations developing education and training materials for food workers and consumers.


  • Food Safety Fact Sheets by U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). For Further Information Contact:

  • International Meat and Poultry HACCP Alliance The International Meat and Poultry HACCP Alliance was developed to provide a uniform program to assure safer meat and poultry products. The Alliance is comprised of interested industry associations and is affiliated with several federal agencies, universities, and professional societies. The Alliance membership is taking the initiative of developing and disseminating appropriate standardized training materials for the meat and poultry industry.


  • MeatPoultryNutrition.org Gives good information on nutrition, diets, recipes and other facts about poultry and meat production and consumption.

  • Penn State Food Safety Home Page is designed to deliver current food safety information and resources to extension educators, the food industry, and consumers. Utilization of the latest database technologies has allowed us to create a user-friendly environment for quick retrieval of information on the latest food safety issues as well as activities and resources available at Penn State University.

  • Poultry Consumer Publications These poultry related consumer publications have been broken down into categories and listed.  Publications are from the USDA's Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS)-Meat and Poultry Hot-line, The International Food Information Council (IFIC), Various Universities, Cooperative Extension Services, related organizations and many other sources.
